Louisville, Kentucky!

Welcome to Louisville, Kentucky - the site of the 131st running of the Kentucky Derby! With a crowd of 156,435 people looking on, long shot 50-1 Giacomo won the race! Here's a view from the infield where myself, Jiang, Greg and friends hung out. Notice the twin spires, a simple architectural element, that's become the symbol of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.

Welc

Most people probably think there's only 1 race for the Derby, but every hour from starting 11am horses from different "age, bracket, breed" go at it. People from all over are betting ($2 the minimun per horse up wards to thousands.). Betting works as such, if you bet $2 on a horse and it is a 50 to 1 odds of winning, then you would win $102 - your original $2 + 50 x 2. This was race 5.

Now that's what I'm talking about! :) This is what happens when the "Grandstand Girls" come down to mingle with the "Infield Boys!" Miss KY and miss KY - wow! I remember I told Jiang this Derby is like the prom on steroids! Cause some people are sooo dressed up and others are ready for craziness (on the infield) very much a Madri Gras feel like in New Orleans as people work for beeds and everyone is in a jolly mood!

Great shot of Jiang and I outside of the complex. During "Race 10" - the derby - we found a nice spot on turn 3, which was also the starting gate.

As we were leaving the track, I saw this view and just had to get a picture. Peaceful and warm, it reminds me of KY.

Sunday we toured Louisville. In the background is Indiana. That's the Ohio river behind us. I gotta say, that river is allowed to be polluted. I live in NJ and have the right to say these guys would kick our butt in "being dirty!".

These are some hot options nearby. Sure things are around 4 to 5 hours away, but open roads and fast speeds. hmmm. St Louis to the west. Great trip, I'd like to go back and do this again. Don't forget belles greeting in the airport, walking back from the Derby, W.W. Cousins and "Elvis", Kentucky Fried Chicken in KY, partying in the Highlands, and the golfing driving range.
